Vietnam is a Southeast Asian country on the South China Sea known for its beaches, rivers, Buddhist pagodas and bustling cities. Hanoi, the capital, pays homage to the nation’s iconic Communist-era leader, Ho Chi Minh, via a huge marble mausoleum. Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Saigon) has French colonial landmarks, plus Vietnamese War history museums and the Củ Chi tunnels, used by Viet Cong soldiers.

Ha Noi is located in the Red River Delta, in the center of North Viet Nam. It is encompassed by Thai Nguyen and Vinh Phuc provines to the north, Ha Nam and Hoa Binh provinces to the south, Bac Giang, Bac Ninh and Hung Yen provinces to the east, Hoa Binh and Phu Tho provinces to the west.

Ha Noi means “the hinterland between the rivers” (Ha: river, Noi: interior). Ha Noi’s territory is washed by the Red River (the portion of the Red River embracing Ha Noi is approximately 40km long) and its tributaries, but there are some other rivers flowing through the capital, including Duong, Cau, Ca Lo, Day, Nhue, Tich, To Lich and Kim Nguu.

Today, Ho Chi Minh City is the big tourism center in Vietnam, attracting a large of visitors to Vietnam. Ho Chi Minh City has various attractions as Ho Chi Minh Museum, formerly known as Dragon House Wharf, Cu Chi Tunnels, system of museums, theatres, cultural houses… Recently, many tourist areas are invested such as Thanh Da, Binh Quoi Village, Dam Sen Park, Saigon Water Park, Suoi Tien, Ky Hoa…, which draw numerous tourists.

Q1Can I charge my cell phone or laptop in a standard outlet?

In Vietnam the power plugs and sockets are of type A, C and D. The standard voltage is 110 / 220 V and the standard frequency is 50 Hz. Converters can be purchased at your local hardware or appliance store.

Q2Do I need any vaccinations for my trip to Vietnam?

Specific vaccinations are not required for entry into Vietnam. However, it is recommended that all of your vaccinations are up-to-date one month prior to your departure. For further consultation, please visit a travel clinic or your family doctor.

Q3When is the best time to travel to Vietnam?

In general, the best time to visit Vietnam is during December through February when temperatures are milder and rain is minimal. Vietnam’s long, narrow shape means that the three primary regions (north, central, and south) experience different types of seasons and weather events throughout the year.

Q5Do I need a visitor's visa for Vietnam?

Vietnam tourist visas are required for citizens of Canada. We may be able to help you arrange your visa for a fee.
Canadian passports must be valid for 6 months from their date of return. You may contact the Vietnamese Embassy or Consulate if you have any questions or concerns regarding visa requirements.

Q5Can I drink tap water and other drinks? And what kind of food should I avoid?

It is recommended that you solely drink bottled or boiled water, beverages from cans or sealed bottles. You should avoid fruits that you cannot peel yourself, ice in beverages, and undercooked food. It is also not recommended that you eat food from food stalls located in the streets. Also, avoid unpasteurized dairy products.
