Overnight flight from Toronto to Greece.
Upon arrival at the airport, you will be met by our representative, assisted through formalities and transferred to your hotel.
Today, explore the city of Athens. Begin with a panoramic tour (viewing from the outside) to the most important monuments and landmarks of the city: Athens Acropolis Museum including the Panathinaikon stadium, the Zappeion, the temple of Olympian Zeus, Hadrian’s Arch, Syntagma square, the Parliament, the tomb of the unknown soldier, Schliemann’s house, the Academy, the University, the National Library, and the old Parliament. Following, enjoy a tour of the Acropolis, including the Parthenon. After, visit the Acropolis museum. Return to your hotel and enjoy and afternoon at leisure. Overnight at your hotel. (B)
After breakfast, depart northwards towards Delphi, which used to be the most sacred place in the world. Admire the Sanctuary of Apollo, walk the Sacred way, and visit the Temple of Apollo, home of Pythia (the oracle). Continue to the local museum with the famous bronze statue of the Charioteer. In the afternoon, cross the mountains of central Greece to arrive in Kalambaka for dinner and overnight. (BD)
Leave Kalambaka and drive to Meteora (a UNESCO World Heritage Monument). Amazing rock formations, like towers of sandstone, have provided sacred retreat for monks over the centuries. A number of monasteries are hidden on top of Meteora. Enjoy its magnificent views. Continue the drive north, through the striking Plain of Thessaly and the Valley of Tempi. The way leads under the impressive Mount Olympus, home of the 12 Gods in Greek Mythology, and to Thessaloniki, capital of northern Greece. Overnight at your hotel. (BD)
After breakfast, explore the city of Thessaloniki. Visit the most important landmarks and monuments of the city and embrace its glorious Byzantine past, with visits to its characteristic churches and the museum of Byzantine culture. The afternoon will be at leisure to explore more of the city on your own. Overnight at your hotel. (B)
After breakfast, explore the historical places of Macedonia. First stop will be the town of Edessa with its beautiful waterfalls. After, visit Aristotle’s school where the great philosopher taught Alexander the Great. Continue to Vergina with the Royal tombs of Macedonia, including King Phillip II, father of Alexander the Great. Our last stop will be Veria with the Bema of St. Paul, the colorful market and the Jewish neighborhood. Return to Thessaloniki for dinner and overnight. (BD)
After breakfast return back to Athens with a few key stops. The first stop will be to Pella, ancient capital of Macedonia and birthplace of Alexander the Great. Visit the site with the excquisite floor mosaics and the new local museum. Continue the drive to the archaeological park of Dion, the sacred place of ancient Macedonia at the foot of mount Olympus. Stop for a view of Thermopylae and the statue of Leonidas. Arrive in Athens and overnight at your hotel. (B)
Say goodbye to Greece and transfer to the airport for your flight to home. (B)
