Here are some frequently asked questions on travel to Israel

Israel FAQ

Q1Will I require a visitor's visa in Israel?

Israel tourist visa is not required for citizens of Canada for a stay up to 90 days. You may contact the Israeli Embassy or Consulate if you have any questions or concerns regarding visa requirements.

Q2Can I charge my cell phone or camera in Israeli standard outlets?

The electrical sockets use 220 volts, 50 Hz. Type C is the commonly used outlet in Israel. If it is necessary to use the outlets, we recommend bringing a universal adapter.

Q3What is the currency used in Israel?

The Israeli New Shekel (JD) is the official currency used in Israel. Each shekel consists of 100 agarot. Bank notes are in quantities of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 and 200 shekels.
You can convert your currency at the local banks. Guides will be able to assist you in exchanging your currency.

Q4Is tipping appreciated in Israel? If so, how much?

Yes, tipping is appreciated in Israel. Luggage porters can be tipped around 2 USD. Guides and drivers appreciate tipping as an incentive. As well, servers in restaurants appreciate 10-12% from the bill.

Q5What kind of medical precautions should I take before visiting Israel?

Specific vaccinations are not required for entry in Israel. However, it is recommended that all of your vaccinations are up-to-date one month prior to your departure.
For further consultation, please consult with your family doctor or a travel clinic.

Q6What's the weather like in Israel?

Israel is a Middle Eastern country and maintains a desert climate. During spring and summer months, temperatures can increase to 35-40 degrees Celsius. Between the months of November to March, cooler temperatures with some rain is to be expected.

Q7What should I wear?

We advise you to take cotton clothes in summer and woolen clothes in winter since the desert can drop to low temperatures at night. Bring soft walking shoes that have been worn before (brand new shoes may hurt your feet and lead to uncomfortable touring).

Please note that older cities contain many religious structures – conservative clothing (no shorts or tank tops) is appreciated when visiting these locations.
